How to Get to Heaven Part 4

So how do you enter into this life of joy and peace? Well there's no pilgrimage to a foreign land necessary. You don't have to send your life savings to some PO Box. You accept Jesus' free gift of salvation by faith and follow Him. Here's how it works:

Pray

  • First admit to yourself and to God that you are a sinner, that you have broken God's laws and can't live by them on your own power.
  • Believe in your heart that Jesus died and was raised from the dead for your sins.
  • Ask God to forgive you of the wrong that you've done, and to come into your life. You can be assured that God will hear your prayer if you meant it from your heart!

Get to Know God

The Christian life is not a program, it's a relationship. Like any relationship, you need to get to know the other person. The way to get to know God is to spend time with Him. Get a Bible if you don't already have one (email us and we'd be happy to send you one totally free!). Use a modern translation that's reader friendly like the New Living Bible. Start reading every day. Pray before you read and ask God to show you the meaning of His Word. Begin by reading the gospel of John, then the Epistle to the Romans. Then start a regular reading plan of the New and Old Testaments. Many people have all kinds of ideas about what God is like. The Bible tells us the truth of who He is.

Talk to God

Prayer is conversation with God. Prayers don't have to be beautiful poems in Old English. They should be your honest thoughts and feeling from your heart to God's ears. As you read the Bible, check out the Psalms, many of which were King David's prayers to God. He told God just how he felt, but always remembered who he was talking to. Pray every day. Find a time and place that is undisturbed and quiet so you can concentrate on communicating with God. It doesn't matter where it is, just that it allows uninterrupted time with the Lord.

Get to Know Your New Family

When you were born again, you were adopted into a new family. You literally have millions of brothers and sisters that you haven't met yet. Find a solid, Bible teaching church like Calvary Chapel and get plugged in. If Calvary Chapel Pittsburgh is not close enough to where you live, check out the map at www.calvarychapel.com/affiliates/index.htm for one that is close to you. There are many other good Bible teaching churches besides Calvary Chapel that also may be in your area. Church going lets you meet others in the faith, which is a big encouragement. It is also a great place to learn more about Jesus and the Christian life.

Let Others Know What's Happened in Your Life

There are many others in the world who are in the same situation you were before you accepted Jesus. They need to hear the good news that there is hope for them. They need to know that Jesus has a plan for them too. Don't keep your new faith a secret from them. Let them share in the goodness of God's mercy and love.

If you have just prayed this prayer of salvation, please e-mail us with the news. We want to rejoice with you. We promise not to send you any letters begging for money or to put you on 175 mailing lists. But we do have some free materials including a Bible that can help you get started in this new life you have begun.

Welcome home!
